An elderly Black man hangs a white sheet on a clothesline while a red Shiba Inu runs past with her mouth open. 18 / 31

Earl Was Hanging Sheets on the Line. Maple Saw an Obstacle Course.

AI imagered shiba inulaundry daybackyard zoomies

Earl reaches up with a clothespin to hang a long white sheet, his glasses a bit crooked and his beard framing a wide grin. Clothes of every color flutter from the lines overhead and a laundry basket waits at the base of the porch. Right between the hanging sheets, Maple the red Shiba Inu is in full flight, ears back, mouth open in a happy pant and her curled tail up as she zooms across the yard. Boots, bags and plants line the back wall of the house.

Laundry day can turn into a game for a playful dog, and Shiba Inus are known for bursts of energy that fans call the zoomies. These short sprints are normal and healthy as long as there is a safe place to run. Check that the yard is fully fenced, clear any trip hazards and keep laundry products, dryer sheets and detergent pods out of reach, since many are harmful if chewed or swallowed. A tangled sheet or clothespin on the ground can be a choking or entanglement risk. If your dog seems to be running wild constantly, talk to your vet about her exercise needs.

Maple races back and forth between the sheets as if they were a hallway built for her. Earl keeps hanging, a smile on his face, and the laundry dries in the breeze.
