Grandpa Otis Smoothed the Blanket Corner. Bruno Gave a Sleepy Sigh.
Kneeling on the carpet in a tan cardigan, Grandpa Otis smooths a pale blanket over Bruno with slow, careful hands. His eyes are half closed in a gentle smile, and the lines of his face are soft in the golden light. Bruno lies curled in a round, cushioned bed with only his brindle face and front paws peeking out, chin settled low and dark eyes drifting toward sleep. A basket of folded blankets, a pair of sneakers by the wall, a leafy plant, and a blue couch behind them make the room feel like a quiet corner of a much-loved home.
A good bedtime routine helps dogs feel secure. Many dogs sleep best in a bed with raised sides or a soft blanket they can burrow into, placed away from drafts. French Bulldogs, with their short noses, can overheat or breathe noisily under heavy covers, so a light blanket and a cool room are better than thick layers. Make sure your dog can easily move out from under a blanket if he gets warm. A consistent bedtime, a last bathroom trip, and a little wind-down time all signal that it is time to rest. If your dog snores heavily or struggles to breathe, mention it to your vet.
Otis tucks the corner just so, and Bruno sighs. It is a small ritual, and it clearly means a great deal to both of them.
