Grandma Odessa and Copper Had the Best Seats for the Thunderstorm
The rain is coming down hard across the yard, but the covered porch is dry and warm. Grandma Odessa sits in a chunky beige cardigan with her silver curls bright against the dim light, her gaze calm and thoughtful as she watches the water fall. Copper sits right beside her in the foreground, the back of his glossy red-gold neck and one long ear filling the lower half of the frame, his nose lifted toward the wet air. Strings of tiny lights hang from the porch beams, plants line the rail, and a pink and gold glow shows at the edge of the clouds.
Rainy days can be a good time to slow down with a dog. Many dogs enjoy the smell and sound of rain, but some are nervous about thunder, so keep an eye on your pet if the sky is loud. A quiet spot, a soft blanket and your calm company can help an anxious dog settle. If your dog has been out in the rain, dry them well, especially the ears and belly, to avoid chilly skin and a soggy-dog smell. Wet paws can track mud inside, so keep a towel by the door. A short covered-porch sit like this is a lovely way to enjoy the weather without getting soaked.
Some of the best moments are just sitting still. The rain has plenty to say, and neither of them is in a hurry to answer.
