Grandma Odessa Turned On the Hose. The Car Never Stood a Chance.
Water is flying in every direction, and Copper is right in the middle of it. Standing on his back legs with his front paws in the air and his mouth wide open, the soaked red-gold Golden Retriever lunges for the stream from the hose. Grandma Odessa laughs behind it in a teal shirt and navy apron, silver hair bright and glasses on, holding the nozzle steady. A dark sedan sits wet and suds-free behind them, and the driveway, buckets and trash cans suggest a busy afternoon of chores. It is clear who is cleaner at the end of this wash.
Many retrievers adore water, and a hose can be an excellent summer game. Keep it gentle and pointed away from the face, as a strong spray can hurt a dog's eyes and ears, and take breaks so your dog does not tire. Make sure the water is not hot from sitting in the sun-warmed hose, and have fresh drinking water ready. Keep car-washing products out of reach, since soaps, waxes and especially antifreeze are harmful to dogs. A damp dog will shake, so stand clear if you plan to stay dry. Give a good towel rub afterward, and dry the ears to keep them comfortable.
The car may or may not be clean when they finish, but Copper is. And Grandma Odessa is already laughing too hard to stop.
