Grandma Odessa Took Her Coffee Outside. Copper Was Already Waiting on the Steps.
The morning is gray and quiet, and Grandma Odessa has taken her coffee out to the old wooden steps. She wears a soft olive green hoodie, her silver hair brushed and a small gold earring just visible as she sips from a cream-colored mug. Down in the foreground, Copper sits very close with his big dark red-brown face turned toward the camera, brown eyes calm and a little hopeful, his collar and long drooping ears neat beside him. Behind them lie a patchy lawn, potted plants and a wooden fence still wearing the cool morning light.
A daily routine like coffee on the porch is a gentle, grounding habit, and many dogs love routines just as much. Retrievers in particular thrive on predictable schedules and the attention of their people. Remember that coffee, tea and other caffeinated drinks are harmful to dogs, so keep mugs out of reach and clean up any spills. Fresh water in a bowl nearby is a better treat. Weathered steps can be slippery, especially when damp, so older dogs and people should take care. Morning is also a good time for a walk and a check of your dog's appetite and energy. If anything changes suddenly, talk to your vet.
Grandma Odessa takes her time with the last of the coffee. Copper takes his time too, and neither of them is in a rush.
