Grandma Nell Took Her Coffee to the Steps. Waffles Was Right There Too.
The steps are worn, the light is going gold, and Grandma Nell has settled into her usual spot with a mug of coffee in her hand. She wears a green cardigan over a denim shirt, her curly gray hair and glasses catching the light of a lantern by the door, and she looks down with a gentle smile. Waffles lies stretched along the step right next to her, his red and white body relaxed, his white-tipped tail curved behind him and his head turned up toward her. Garden tools, flowerpots, a tote bag and a pair of shoes line the yard behind the steps.
A quiet routine like coffee on the steps is a good one for a Beagle, who loves to spend time with their people and watch the world. Keep coffee, tea and other caffeinated drinks out of your dog's reach, since caffeine is harmful to dogs. A bowl of fresh water nearby is a better choice. Beagles also like to follow their nose, so a leash or a fenced yard helps keep them safe, and keeping garden tools and chemicals put away prevents accidents. Steps can be hard on older people and dogs alike, so take care when the wood is damp. A regular daily routine helps dogs feel settled, and a quiet moment together at the end of the day is good for both.
The coffee will go cold before the conversation ends. Waffles does not mind, and Grandma Nell would not have it any other way.
