Grandpa Was Missing One Puzzle Piece. The Schnauzer Pulled Up a Chair
Walt peers over his glasses at a landscape puzzle, hunting for the next piece among a scattering of small shapes. Across the corner of the table, Pepper sits on a wooden chair as straight as a child at dinner, ears perked and eyes on the board. The sunny kitchen behind them has a kettle on the stove, a bowl of bananas and apples, a plant, and a blue dish towel draped on the counter.
Jigsaw puzzles are a favorite pastime for many older adults, and a dog nearby gives the afternoon some company. Miniature Schnauzers are curious and clever and often like to sit where they can see what the family is doing. Because puzzle pieces are small, any that fall on the floor should be picked up quickly so they do not end up in a dog's mouth. Make sure the chair is stable so he cannot tip it or jump down awkwardly, and give him a chew toy to keep paws busy. Schnauzers can be sensitive to being left out, so letting them join quiet activities helps them stay calm. If your dog ever swallows something he should not, call your vet.
Walt is making steady progress, and Pepper is making steady observations. Neither seems to mind that the picture is only half finished. A rainy or sunny afternoon, it hardly matters when the company is this good.
