Grandpa Bundled the Schnauzer in a Blanket After the Rain
Only a nose, two dark eyes, and a pair of damp gray ears show from the thick cream blanket Walt holds to his chest. Pepper looks up with a mix of tiredness and total contentment while rain taps the window behind them. A green raincoat and an umbrella hang by the door, and a row of muddy boots waits on the floor. Walt looks down at his companion with a warm, gentle face.
After a rainy walk, a good towel dry matters. Damp fur can get chilly, and a Miniature Schnauzer's wiry coat and beard can hold a surprising amount of water. Gently rub the coat, paws, and belly, and check between the toes for mud or small pebbles. Many dogs enjoy being wrapped in a warm blanket afterward, though a dog that is shivering for long or seems unwell should be looked at by a vet. Small dogs lose heat faster than larger ones, so it helps to keep walks short in cold, wet weather and keep a dry towel by the door. A quick brush once he is dry keeps the coat from matting.
The storm can carry on outside. In here, a warm blanket and a loyal arm are doing all the work, and Pepper looks like he plans to stay wrapped up for a good long while.
