Grandma Waited for a Bite While Penny Kept Watch at the Dock Edge

AI imageyorkshire terrierfishingwooden dock

Grandma sits at the edge of a weathered wooden dock with a fishing rod in her hand, her glasses perched on top of her silver hair and a gentle smile on her face. She wears a green cardigan over a blue plaid shirt, and a clothesline and potted plants appear in the backyard behind her. Penny the Yorkshire Terrier sits right beside her, chin lifted and ears alert, looking out with sharp, curious eyes. The water below is dark and still, and the fishing line trails into it. A faint ripple spreads where the line meets the water.

Dogs on docks need some safety planning. Even if a dog can swim, small dogs can tire quickly, so a life vest is a good idea near deep water. Watch for fishing hooks, lines, and bait on the dock, which can be dangerous if swallowed or stepped on. Keep her on a leash or harness near the edge, and offer water from your own bottle rather than the pond. Yorkies are alert and curious, so a calm spot on your lap is a good idea.

Penny is more interested in Grandma than in any fish. She sits as still as she can, watching the line. Grandma smiles, in no hurry at all. Whether or not anything bites, the day is already a catch.

Patience on the dock is its own reward.
