Pip Took the Crossword Very Seriously This Morning
Grandpa grips his pencil over a half-finished crossword, brow furrowed in concentration, while Pip sits on the table beside the puzzle and stares up at him. A cup of tea, a plate with a slice of toast, and a bowl of fruit sit in the sunny kitchen behind them. His plaid flannel and white hair glow in the warm morning light.
There are crumbs on the paper and a tea towel by the plate, and Pip's tail is nowhere to be seen, hidden behind her tidy paws. The puzzle is clearly taking a lot of thought, and the dog is taking it just as seriously.
Yorkshire Terriers are small but bold, and many of them like to be right in the middle of whatever the family is doing. That curiosity is part of what makes them such good companions, though a dog on the table is a habit worth watching, since plates and cups are within reach. Giving her a cushion beside your chair gives her a front-row seat without the table access. Short, positive training sessions work well with this smart breed. If she seems to snatch crumbs often, ask your vet about healthy treats to use instead.
Nobody knows what seven across is yet, but Pip looks confident about it. She is the only one who has not blinked.
