Grandpa Lifted Pip to the Window to Watch the Snow Come Down
Snow drifts past the window, and Grandpa holds Pip gently in both hands so she can see out. His plaid flannel is soft and warm, and his face is lit by the pale winter light. Pip balances against his arm with her ears up, eyes locked on the white world outside, a red collar peeking from her fur.
The yard is a hush of white, with bare branches and distant rooftops softened by the storm. Grandpa's smile is quiet and proud, the kind a person has when sharing something they love with a friend.
Many small dogs love watching snow from a window, but winter weather needs a few precautions. Yorkies have fine coats and little body mass, so they can get cold quickly, and a sweater or coat helps on short walks. Wipe her paws after going out to remove salt and ice melt, which can irritate skin. When lifting a small dog, support her chest and hindquarters so she feels safe. Snow-covered ground can hide hazards, so keep her on a leash. If she shivers or refuses to walk, bring her inside and call your vet if you are worried.
Soon enough there will be a short, brisk dash outside. For now, the window is the best seat. Pip will get her turn out in the cold soon enough, bundled up and ready for a quick sniff around the yard. For now, the best view is from his arms, and she seems perfectly happy there.
