Otis and Pepper Drifted Off Together on the Porch Swing
Otis has leaned back on the porch swing with his head against a pale green cushion and his eyes closed, wearing the peaceful expression of a man who has nowhere to be. Pepper is curled on his chest, chin pressed to his cardigan and her brindle coat rising and falling with each breath. Potted plants and a pair of old shoes sit by the swing, and the chain creaks softly overhead. A faded blue blanket is folded over the arm of the swing, and the afternoon sun slips softly across the boards.
A nap on a swing is a favorite of many small dogs because it is warm, snug, and gently rocking. Shih Tzus are known for being affectionate and sleepy lap companions, and they often choose the closest spot possible. If your dog is sleeping a lot, that can be normal, but a sudden change in energy or appetite is a good reason to call your vet. Make sure a swing is secure, and keep small dogs from jumping off while it is moving.
Neither of them has moved in some time, and the porch is calm. The shoes by the swing are waiting, and the afternoon is long. Few places on earth are better for dozing than a porch swing with a loyal friend. Even the wind seems to have slowed down.
