A White Cat and a Line of Ducklings All Wanted the Same Water Bowl
Taking turns has never been so adorable. A white cat with soft green eyes crouches beside a shallow ceramic bowl of water, leaning in slowly as if waiting politely for an opening. On the far side of the bowl, a line of yellow ducklings dips their orange bills into the water, one after another, with complete confidence. One duckling in the front stands close to the cat, while the rest crowd around the rim. Behind them, the room is a lively mess, with a tote bag, a pile of clothes, a blue towel on the floor, slippers, boxes, and even a rubber duck that seems to be watching its real-life cousins.
Water matters a great deal for both of these animals. Ducklings need water deep enough to dip their whole bill, since they use it to clear their nostrils and help swallow food, but very young ducklings can tire or get chilled in deep water, so shallow dishes or waterers with marbles or stones added are common choices. They also make a mess of water quickly, so it needs frequent changing. Cats, meanwhile, are often picky drinkers who prefer fresh, clean water, and many enjoy wide, shallow bowls or moving water. Sharing a bowl with birds isn't ideal for hygiene, so separate dishes are best for both.
Still, as a picture of peaceful coexistence, this one is hard to beat. There's plenty of water for everyone, and nobody seems to be in a rush.
