Every Windowsill Needs a Supervisor. This One Has a Very Grumpy-Looking Boss.

Every windowsill needs a supervisor, and this one has a very serious one. A plush cream Exotic Shorthair lies stretched along the painted sill, one paw resting near the ducklings, her flat face and copper eyes set in that famously grumpy-looking expression the breed is known for. Six yellow ducklings crowd in front of her, sunlight glowing through their fuzzy down as they peer toward the glass. A mug sits on the far end of the sill, a potted plant and pair of glasses rest in the background, and a soft blue blanket is crumpled beside the cat.

Despite that stern face, Exotic Shorthairs are usually sweet, mellow, and affectionate. The breed shares the Persian's round head and flat face but has a short, dense coat that's much easier to care for. A weekly comb-out is often enough, though their eyes may need regular gentle wiping. Like all cats, they adore sunny spots, which help them stay warm, and windowsills also offer entertainment in the form of birds and passing activity outside. If your cat loves a window perch, make sure screens are secure, especially on upper floors, and that cords from blinds are tied up out of reach.

This cream cat might look like she's judging the ducklings, but she hasn't moved an inch to leave. Behind that grumpy face is someone who's secretly enjoying the company.
