Pepper Brought the Wagon, and Rusty Brought Himself Along

A tiny Yorkshire Terrier perches on the edge of a faded red wagon while a big ginger Maine Coon sits beside him, both gazing off in the same direction. The wagon sits on a lawn dotted with fallen leaves, and a fence, a few shrubs and a blue-gray house wall frame the backyard behind them. A coil of rope trails from the front, ready for the next adventure.

We could call the Yorkie Pepper and the cat Rusty. Pepper's steel-blue coat shades into gold at his face and legs, and his ears stand like two little flags. Rusty's long amber fur and tufted ears make him look like a small lion on a Sunday outing.

Yorkshire Terriers are small dogs with big personalities, originally bred to chase rats, so they are often bold, alert and a little bossy. Their silky hair needs regular brushing. Maine Coons are among the largest domestic cats, known for being friendly, sociable and surprisingly chatty, with soft chirps and trills. If you want to take pets for a wagon ride, move slowly, keep the ground smooth, and never leave them unattended in it. Make sure neither can jump out into traffic or an unfenced area, and watch the weather, since pets can overheat on a warm day.

For the moment Pepper and Rusty are passengers only, enjoying the view of the yard from a very good seat.
