A Porch Hammock, a Sleepy Mutt, and Five Kittens in a Row
A rope hammock hangs from the porch, and a tan and white mixed-breed dog is sprawled inside with his eyes closed and a peaceful look on his face. Curled against his belly, five kittens are sleeping in a little heap: grey tabby, orange, black and white, brown tabby, and cream. Around the hammock, the porch is full of garden gear: a watering can, gloves, a cardboard box, and sandals scattered about.
Hammocks are fun for pets, but safety matters. The ropes should be sturdy and low to the ground, and you should check for wear. Kittens can get their claws caught in the weave, so it is wise to supervise. Mixed-breed dogs often combine the best traits of several breeds, and many are known for being loyal and gentle. A dog who naps with kittens often becomes a trusted friend, and the kittens will often follow him around for company. If you have a litter, a vet can advise about keeping them safe and healthy.
The hammock rocks a little in the breeze, and the dog's chest rises and falls, rocking the kittens too. One of them yawns without waking. The garden outside is busy with chores waiting, but nobody here cares. It is a nap in the best possible spot, with the best possible company. Nobody on the porch would dream of disturbing it.
