The Saint Bernard Looked Worried While the Kittens Splashed Away
The creek is shallow and bright, and five kittens have decided it is the best playground yet. A red and white Saint Bernard crouches at the water's edge, brow furrowed in concern, as the kittens splash around. An orange one paws at the water with a wet foot, a grey one stands tall and startled, a black and white one hops, and a calico is splashing along. Light sparkles on the ripples and moss grows on the stones.
Most cats are not big fans of water, so kittens in a creek are a rare sight, and a little startling. Water can be risky for tiny animals, since they can chill quickly and cannot swim far. If a kitten gets wet, dry it gently with a towel and keep it warm. Saint Bernards were bred as rescue dogs in the Alps, and that caring instinct often shows in how they watch over smaller animals. Still, supervision by people is the safest approach, and your vet can help if you have any worries.
The Saint Bernard watches the kittens with his heavy brow wrinkled, ready to step in. A splash goes up, and he takes a half step closer. Nobody needs rescuing, but he stands by just in case. After all, it is what he was bred to do, and he takes the job seriously, even when the emergency is just a happy kitten with wet paws.
