A Scottish Fold and Old Gus Waited Together on the Step
Two round shapes share a concrete step. A grey Scottish Fold cat with folded ears and wide amber eyes sits with her paws tucked beneath her, looking off to the right. Next to her, a tortoise stands patiently, his domed shell patterned with golden scutes. Garden boots, a green watering can, and a blue ball are scattered nearby on the paving.
Scottish Folds are known for their sweet, quiet nature and their distinctive folded ears, caused by a gene that also affects cartilage, so a vet's guidance on their care is a good idea. They are generally calm and enjoy company. Tortoises, with their steady and unhurried habits, are the perfect companions for a relaxed cat. On a concrete step, a tortoise can warm up in the sun, but the surface can also get hot, so be sure there is shade nearby. Fresh water and a healthy diet of leafy greens are the basics of tortoise care.
We will call the tortoise Gus. The cat and the tortoise are not doing much. They are simply sitting together, as if waiting for a bus that comes only once a day. Nobody is bothered. A small breeze tugs at the cat's fur, and the tortoise blinks once. It is a picture of two friends who are happy to just be. It is hard to imagine a calmer pair anywhere on the property.
