A Snow Bengal Gave a Tortoise a Very Careful Ride Across the Yard
There is a brave rider on the back of this snow Bengal cat. She walks across the green yard with her head high and her blue eyes forward, her pale cream coat patterned with soft golden rosettes. Balanced right behind her shoulders, a tortoise stands with his legs spread, head up, as if enjoying the view. Garden pots, a fence, and a leafy bed make the backdrop for the unlikely parade.
Bengal cats are energetic and athletic, and they are known for their striking spotted coats. They tend to be very curious and need plenty of play and activity. A tortoise, however, should not be ridden or carried by a cat. Tortoises can be injured by falls, and their shells, while sturdy, are sensitive and have nerve endings. This sort of picture is a funny fantasy, but in real life, give each pet space and safe handling, and ask your vet about how best to introduce a cat to a tortoise.
We will call the tortoise Gus. He seems proud of his position, and the Bengal steps carefully, as if she knows she is carrying precious cargo. The yard is wide, and the ride is smooth. Neither seems to mind that this may be the slowest taxi in the world. Gus is just happy to be on the move. A passing sparrow stops to stare, then thinks better of commenting.
