They Followed the Sunbeam Across the Floor and Fell Asleep in It

A single patch of sunlight has landed on the wooden floor, and two friends have lined up inside it. A white cat lies with her paws tucked under her chest and her green-gold eyes narrowed in the glow. Next to her, a golden puppy named Biscuit rests his head on the planks with his eyes shut. Through the doorway behind them, a garden and a lamp can be seen, adding a quiet warmth to the room.

Cats chase patches of sunlight with remarkable accuracy, moving from spot to spot as the light shifts across the floor. Sunbathing helps them stay warm, and it simply feels good. Dogs like it too. Just be sure your pets can step out of the sun if they get hot, and keep water within reach.

White cats deserve a special note. Those with pale skin, particularly on the ears and nose, can be more vulnerable to sunburn, so limit their time in strong, direct sunlight and ask your vet if you have concerns. A shaded window or a sheer curtain can soften the rays.

For now, though, the light is gentle, the floor is warm, and nobody has anywhere to be. The cat is calm, the puppy is dozing, and the sunbeam slowly creeps along the floor, taking its two guests with it. The sunbeam is happy to take its time, and so are they.
