A Bernese Mountain Dog and a Tuxedo Cat Napped by the Fire

The wood stove is glowing behind its glass door, and in front of it, two sleepers have stretched out on a woven rug. A big Bernese Mountain Dog lies with his long black, white, and rust-colored coat and his chin on the floor. Next to him, a tuxedo cat is curled with her white paws tucked under her chin, fast asleep. A stack of firewood and a pair of slippers sit nearby, and the whole room has a warm, golden feel.

Bernese Mountain Dogs are large, gentle dogs from the Swiss Alps. They are known for being affectionate, calm, and good with families. Their thick coats keep them warm in the cold but can make them overheat indoors, so make sure they have a cool place to retreat from a stove.

Wood stoves can be dangerous for pets, because the surface can cause serious burns. Always use a safety screen and keep animals a safe distance away. Never leave pets alone in a room with an open fire, and keep the area clear of anything flammable.

With the right precautions, a warm hearth can make a cozy evening for everyone. The Bernese and the tuxedo cat look completely at peace, wrapped in the glow of the fire. It's one of those quiet winter scenes that makes us want to put on a sweater and rest.
