A Gray Tabby and a Tortoise Moved Into the Same Cardboard Box
The cardboard box is open at the top, and two residents have moved in. A grey tabby with green eyes and a puzzled look sits upright on the left. Moss the tortoise rests on the right with his head near the cat's paw and his shell patterned in tan and brown. A bit of straw covers the bottom of the box, and a rug, a pair of slippers and a doorway fill the room behind them.
Cats are famous for loving boxes, and a cardboard one is a perfect hideout. It feels safe, warm and snug. A tortoise may also enjoy a box as a temporary shelter, but only briefly, since he needs a proper enclosure with the right heat and light. If you offer a box to your pets, remove tape and staples, and make sure there are no sharp edges. Gray tabbies are often friendly, adaptable cats who enjoy exploring new spaces. A little box is a cheap and cheerful way to give your pets a place of their own.
The cat looks pleased with her new place, and the tortoise looks quite at home. They are an odd pair in a very small box, but they fit well. The room is quiet, and the box is theirs. If anyone needs the box back, they will have to ask very politely, and probably wait until after the nap.
