A Tiny Bunny Fell Asleep Between the Paws of a Giant Bernese
Two enormous white-tipped paws frame a very small, very sleepy bunny. A tricolor Bernese Mountain Dog has laid his head down across his front legs, and Clover is curled in the cradle that forms between them, eyes closed and ears folded. The dog's rust-colored eyebrows are lifted slightly, and his glossy black coat gleams in the warm light of the wood-floored room. Boots and a green blanket sit behind them.
Bernese Mountain Dogs are large, sturdy farm dogs from Switzerland and are known for their gentle, family-loving nature. Many take on a protective, nurturing attitude around smaller family members. They are a big breed with a thick coat, so they can overheat in warm rooms and benefit from fresh water and cool floors. Because of their size, they should be taught to move carefully around small animals, and you should supervise every interaction. A rabbit should always have the option to leave. If you want advice on introducing a big dog to a small pet, your vet is a good place to start.
This last moment feels like the end of a long day. The Bernese seems to know exactly how precious his bundle is, and he holds perfectly still, looking toward the light. Clover breathes slowly, tiny sides rising and falling. Nothing is asked of either of them, and the room is quiet. It is the kind of rest that only happens between good friends.
