Nutmeg Picked the Warmest Spot, Right Next to the Calico
A fire glows low in the hearth, and a tan lop-eared bunny has snuggled right up against a calico cat on a chunky knit blanket. The bunny's large ear droops across the cat's cheek, and the calico's amber eyes are half shut, her white paws tucked under her chin. A lampshade glows warm beside them, and the room behind is a pleasantly cluttered mix of baskets, boots and books. It is the kind of evening that calls for a blanket and nothing else.
Fireside naps are a classic for cats, and rabbits enjoy a quiet cozy corner too. The key is keeping the fire at a safe distance. A sturdy screen should always stand between pets and the flames, and it is wise to keep an eye out for sparks or popping embers. Rabbits can overheat more easily than they get cold, so a bunny should always have an easy path to a cooler place. If your pets love this setup, a thick rug or blanket a few feet back gives them the cozy feeling with a lot less worry.
We'll call the bunny Nutmeg and the calico Marigold. It seems Nutmeg was the one who initiated the cuddle, and Marigold has decided to allow it. Soft crackling, warm light, and a friend leaning on you can make winter evenings feel pretty wonderful.
