A Giant Red Cat and a Tiny Bunny Took Over the Sunflower Patch
The sunflowers are taller than the house windows, and a big red Maine Coon sits among them like a lion among tall grass. His thick orange fur glows in the afternoon light and his tufted ears stand up high. Next to him, a peach-colored lop-eared bunny sits with a gentle sideways glance, ears hanging beside her round cheeks. A blue watering can, a pair of gardening gloves and a woven basket lie on the soil behind them, suggesting someone just stepped away for a moment.
Sunflowers are generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs, which makes them a friendly choice for a pet-filled garden, though eating a lot of any plant can still upset a stomach. Garden safety goes beyond the flowers, though. Fertilizers, slug bait and weed killers can be dangerous, so store them well out of reach and choose pet-safe products. Rabbits need hay as the foundation of their diet, so a snack of garden greens should only be offered in moderation and with your vet's guidance. A shaded spot and fresh water matter on a sunny day.
The big cat and the small bunny make a funny pair of garden guardians. They hold still as if posing, looking calm and confident, and the whole patch of yellow petals frames them perfectly. Sunny days in a garden like this are the sort of thing that make everyone slow down.
