The Schnauzer Took Duck Duty Seriously on a Frosty Morning
Frost patterns curl across the windowpane, and on the sill a row of five yellow ducklings sits in a neat line, fluffy and warm. Next to them, a Miniature Schnauzer with a salt-and-pepper coat and an impressive gray beard sits tall, his ears folded forward and his dark eyes aimed at the winter scene outside. A plaid blanket rests in the corner of the frame, and a room full of plants, mugs and cozy things lies behind him. It looks like a very serious guard is on duty.
Miniature Schnauzers are small, sturdy dogs that were bred as farm ratters and watchful companions. They are alert, energetic and often quite vocal, and they bond closely with their families. They also need regular grooming to keep that beard and coat tidy. If a dog lives with ducklings, careful supervision is key. Ducklings are fragile, need a warm, dry brooder and clean water, and can be hurt by even playful dogs. A calm dog and slow, supervised introductions help, and a vet can advise about keeping young birds healthy in a home. Never leave pets and ducklings alone together.
The Schnauzer's solemn face makes the line of ducklings seem even more adorable. He has a job, and he is going to do it, while the little yellow row gazes out the window beside him.
