A Silver Weimaraner Kept Five Kittens Warm in the Old Barn
Lantern light glows in the corner of an old barn, and a silver-gray Weimaraner lies in the straw with her long face lowered and her warm amber eyes watching over a little cluster of kittens. Five of them are snuggled in the hay beside her, ginger, black, tabby and gray, some asleep and some peeking out. Wooden planks, coils of rope and a bucket of hay line the walls, and the light flickers on the dust in the air. It feels like a quiet shelter from the cold.
Weimaraners are athletic and affectionate dogs known for their sleek silver coats and their strong bond with their family. They need a lot of exercise and company, and many are very gentle with those they love. Barns can be cozy places for animals, but lanterns and open flames are fire hazards around hay, so use safer electric lighting where animals live. Kittens in a barn need a warm, dry, draft-free spot, clean bedding and fresh water. A vet can recommend care for a litter, and a calm dog can be a gentle companion when supervised.
The Weimaraner's gaze is steady and gentle. In the glow of the barn, with five kittens beside her, she looks like a guardian of the quietest kind. It is a cozy and protected corner, and everyone in it knows it.
