A Boston Terrier Tried to Herd Five Kittens Across the Lawn
The wildflower lawn is full of clover, daisies and little yellow blossoms, and a black and white Boston Terrier is walking through it with the poise of a parade marshal. His ears are upright and his dark eyes are turned toward something off to the side. Behind and beside him, five tiny kittens in orange, gray, calico, tuxedo and soft white tumble along on their wobbly legs, each looking in a different direction. A blue watering can, flowerpots and a pair of shoes sit by the back door of the house.
Kittens that can walk on grass are usually old enough to explore, but they are still very small. They are not fully vaccinated at that age, so check with your vet before letting them roam outdoors, and keep outings short and supervised. Boston Terriers are friendly, sociable dogs that often enjoy being around smaller pets, but their enthusiasm should be gentle. When a dog meets kittens, keep the dog calm, offer treats for good behavior, and allow the kittens to retreat. A garden is also full of hazards, like certain plants and lawn treatments, so choose pet-safe options and make sure kittens cannot wander off.
The Boston seems to know that he is leading something special. His kittens are all headed in slightly different directions, but he keeps his chin up and walks on, and the lawn is theirs.
