A Curly Black Cat and Four Chicks Followed the Sunbeam
The sun has found a stretch of wooden deck, and a black Devon Rex has stretched out in the middle of it with her big ears alert. Four yellow chicks rest in a bunch in front of her, soaking up the warmth. Tiny curls of black fur lie scattered on the boards, and the garden beyond is blurred green and gold.
Devon Rexes have a short, wavy coat with a soft texture, big low-set ears, and wide eyes that give them an elfin look. They are social and playful, and many like to be right in the middle of family life. The curly fur is fine and sheds in small amounts, as the little curls on the deck show, so occasional gentle grooming is a good habit. A vet can answer questions about coat and skin.
Sunbathing is a deeply cat thing to do. Cats seek out warm patches of floor and deck because it helps them keep cozy, and they will follow a sunbeam across a room all day. It is worth remembering that warm weather also calls for shade and fresh water nearby, so pets never get too hot.
Here, the sun does its work on every back. The chicks puff up as they dry off and doze, and the cat watches the garden through lowered lids. It is a good afternoon for staying exactly where you are.
