The Pony Fell Asleep Under the Apple Tree and the Puppy Stayed Up
Dappled light falls through the apple branches onto a patch of grass, where a black and tan Rottweiler puppy lies stretched out with his chin up, his eyes bright and alert. Right beside him, a shaggy pony has folded down onto the ground and closed his eyes completely. A green watering can sits on a post and a barn wall shows in the background.
Rottweilers have a reputation for being tough, but puppies of the breed are often goofy, affectionate, and eager to learn. They are strong, intelligent dogs that thrive on early socialization, consistent training, and daily exercise. Introducing a young Rottweiler to a variety of calm experiences, including other animals, tends to help him grow into a steady adult. A trainer or vet can offer a plan.
Orchards hold a few cautions for pets. Fallen apples are fine for ponies in small amounts, but too many can upset a stomach, and apple seeds and rotting fruit are best kept away from dogs. Wasps also love the fallen fruit, so pets who snuffle around the base of the tree can get stung. Ask your vet about safe treats and check the ground before letting animals roam.
The two seem to have settled on a plan, which is to do absolutely nothing at all. The pony dozes, the puppy stays watchful, and the shade makes the afternoon feel endless.
