A Black Cat Napped Right Next to a Cluster of Ducklings
Eyes shut and chin lowered, a black cat dozes on a cream blanket, completely relaxed. Right beside her, a cluster of yellow ducklings has gathered, some standing, some leaning against each other, their downy fluff soft and rounded. A small fruit tree grows in a clay pot behind them, with a few round green fruits hanging among its glossy leaves, and the cluttered room beyond shows baskets of laundry, a pile of knitted wool and a few boxes. Warm light falls across the ducklings and the cat, and everything has the lazy glow of a mid-afternoon rest.
A black cat's sleek coat can absorb heat from the sun, which may be one reason many black cats are such enthusiastic sun-lovers. Black cats are often overlooked in animal shelters, though they are just as friendly and playful as other cats, and many shelters run special adoption events to help them find homes. Ducklings need warmth and rest too, and they can nap in a quiet corner for much of the day. Always supervise cats around baby birds, and ask your vet or a poultry keeper for tips on a brooder and safe introductions.
Little by little, the room slows down. The cat sleeps, the ducklings huddle, and the potted tree keeps watch over them all, while the afternoon light slowly drifts across the floor.
