A Garden Inspection by a Curly Pup and a Very Serious Bunny
Rows of lettuce, carrot tops, and tomato vines fill the garden bed, and two inspectors have arrived to check on progress. A curly chocolate-brown Havanese sniffs at the leaves with a thoughtful, droopy expression. Beside him, a small brown bunny named Clover has her nose low to the soil, her long ears pointing up like little antennae.
The raised beds in the background hold more plants, and a couple of flowerpots wait along the edge. Everything is green and damp, with soft dirt dotted with bits of mulch. The dog and the bunny have their heads close together, which makes the garden feel like a shared project.
Havanese dogs are cheerful, social companions that usually love being with their people and other friendly animals. Their silky, wavy coats need regular brushing, and they tend to do well in smaller homes as long as they get daily walks and play. Gardens are wonderful for pets, but they hold a few hazards. Some common plants and garden products can be harmful to dogs and rabbits, so it is smart to check with your vet about what is safe. Never let pets nibble on plants if you are unsure, and keep any fertilizers or pest sprays locked away. Fresh lettuce and carrot tops may sound like rabbit treats, but introduce any new food slowly.
For now, the two of them are just admiring the greens. It looks like the best kind of garden helper: curious, gentle, and a little bit hungry.
