A Spaniel and a Calf Raced Through the Creek Side by Side
Spray flies as a parti-color Cocker Spaniel and a brown and white calf bound through a shallow creek. The Spaniel's long ears fly out and her mouth is open in a big, happy grin, while the calf lifts its hooves high and charges ahead with its white face bright in the sun. The banks are muddy and green, and a fence runs along the field in the distance.
Many dogs love water, and Cocker Spaniels were bred as sporting dogs who are comfortable in wet fields. They are friendly, gentle, and playful. Calves can also be playful, and young animals sometimes kick up their heels in bursts of fun called frolicking. Creek water can carry bacteria or algae, so avoid letting pets drink from stagnant or unknown water, and rinse and dry the dog afterward, especially those long ears, since moisture can lead to ear infections. Check the creek bed for sharp objects. It is smart to keep play like this supervised and on gentle ground.
The joy in this scene is unmistakable. Neither animal is worrying about getting wet. The splashes are bright and the mood is bright with them. A good day is sometimes as simple as a shallow creek, a friend running beside you, and no plans for what happens when you get out. Even the splashes seem to be laughing, and the creek looks glad to have them.
