Two Faces Appeared in the Barn Door, One Bearded and One Enormous
The barn door is open just wide enough for two faces. A black and silver Miniature Schnauzer stands in front with bushy eyebrows and a serious beard, ears folded forward. Directly above him, Copper the chestnut horse peers out into the yard, ears perked and eyes bright. Behind them is the dark cool shade of the stall, and outside the sun lights up fences and grass. Dust floats in the light, a few boots stand near the wall, and the wooden door looks old and well-loved.
Miniature Schnauzers are sturdy little terriers with a lot of confidence. They are alert watchdogs and often bark to announce visitors, so a patient horse next to them is a calm pairing. That wiry beard and eyebrow fur collects water and food, so a quick face wipe after meals helps, and the coat needs regular grooming. Barns can be a wonderful place for animals to find shelter, but also have hazards, so any dog living near them should have clean walkways and a safe place away from hooves. Make introductions slowly and let each animal show you how close is comfortable.
The two of them look like a team of lookouts, waiting for something interesting to wander past. So far, the yard has not delivered, but they are in no rush. It is a very small adventure, but sometimes the best ones are simply watching the world from a good doorway.
