This Cat Lay Perfectly Still While the Chicks Used Her as a Hill
The cat lies still and the chicks are on the move. A gray Exotic Shorthair rests on a knitted rug with her golden eyes turned to the side, wearing an expression of great patience. Four little chicks climb across her back, and one stands below, looking up. A cardboard box, a basket of laundry and some potted plants crowd the room behind them.
Exotic Shorthairs are known for their mellow temperament and plush teddy-bear look. They tend to be calm and tolerant, which suits a busy household. Their dense coat benefits from regular brushing, and their flat faces may need gentle cleaning around the eyes. A patient cat can put up with a lot, but that does not mean she should be tested. Young chicks can easily be injured by a sudden movement, so keep a watchful eye any time they are around a cat. Chicks need warmth and a brooder, and handwashing after contact with poultry is a good practice. Your vet can give you tips on safe introductions.
The Exotic has decided that being climbed on is part of the day. She blinks slowly and stays calm, and the chicks tumble happily. It is a very patient kind of friendship. Even the chick at the bottom seems to think the climb looks worthwhile. It is a lovely picture of tolerance and trust in a very small, very cozy home.
