A Spotted Dalmatian and a Fluffy Duckling Stared at Each Other

Sitting on a bright green lawn, a Dalmatian leans toward four yellow ducklings that are standing in a tight little group directly in front of him. His spotted face is calm and a little curious, his dark eyes follow every small movement, and his nose almost touches the nearest bill. In the background, a house with yellow siding, a patch of garden, and a leafy tree complete a perfect summer afternoon. Dandelion fluff dots the grass, and a gentle breeze moves the leaves overhead.

Dalmatians are energetic, athletic dogs, originally bred to run alongside carriages, which is why they need plenty of daily exercise. They are loyal and sensitive, and early training and socialization help a lot. Puppies are born plain white and develop their spots as they grow, which many people find surprising. Because Dalmatians are lively, meetings with ducklings should be slow, with the dog sitting calmly while the little birds explore on their own terms.

This Dalmatian is doing everything right, sitting still and letting the ducklings come to him. One duckling has stepped a bit forward, its small head tilted to the side as though asking a question. The tiniest hush seems to have settled over the whole yard.
