A Blue Merle Takes the Ducklings for a Wagon Ride
A blue merle dog with a speckled gray coat leans into a leather harness and tows a little red wagon across the grass. The wagon is packed with yellow ducklings, all balanced on the boards and peeping their way down the yard. A sagging wooden fence runs behind them, and a few garden tools lie scattered nearby. The dog's pale eyes and focused expression suggest this is the most important delivery of his week.
Herding breeds like Border Collies and Australian Shepherds, including blue merle coats, are famous for their drive to move things from one place to another, and many love having a job to do. Wagon pulling can be a healthy outlet when it is gentle and the load is safe. If you try it with a dog, use a well-fitted harness rather than a collar, go slowly, and talk to your vet if your dog has joint or back concerns.
Look closely and you can see how the ducklings have arranged themselves in the wagon, bunched toward the middle for balance. The wagon's worn red paint and the old fence behind it give the yard a cozy, well-used character, like a place where small adventures happen daily.
The ducklings wobble a bit at every bump but never fall, as though they trust the driver completely. By the time the wagon rolls to a stop, the dog will probably look back to check that every single passenger made it, and not one fluffy head will be missing.
