A Dachshund Puppy and a Pony Rock Gently in a Porch Hammock
A green canvas hammock hangs on a shaded porch, and two sleepers have found it. A dark brown Dachshund puppy lies curled with his long nose tucked down and his ears flopped, fast asleep. Next to him, a tan pony with a messy forelock rests his head on the canvas, eyes closed in peaceful sleep. Garden plants, a wooden fence and the soft glow of late sun fill the background. The hammock sags in the middle, which has brought the two of them even closer together.
Dachshunds are small, brave dogs with a long back and short legs, originally bred in Germany to hunt badgers. They are curious, clever and full of personality. Because of their long spine, it is wise to keep Dachshunds at a healthy weight and to avoid letting them jump from high places, since back problems can be a concern in the breed. Using ramps or steps for the couch or bed is a good habit, and your vet can offer more advice. Hammocks and soft beds are favorite napping places for many dogs.
The two sleepers rock gently in their little hammock, and the afternoon drifts by. The puppy's tiny breaths and the pony's slow ones seem to keep time with each other. Few things are more peaceful than a nap in the shade with a friend close by.
