The Lab Knew Exactly Where to Go. The Calf Trusted Him Completely.
The meadow is in full bloom, and a black Labrador Retriever is clearly in charge of the tour. He strides through the tall grass with his mouth open in a relaxed grin and a rope looped from his collar, while a brown and white calf trots alongside him, ears out to the sides and pink nose in the air. Clover and wildflowers dot the grass in every direction. Let's call the Lab Duke and the calf Maple.
Labrador Retrievers are famous for their friendly, eager personalities, and they are one of the most popular family dogs for good reason. They love having a job, whether it is fetching, following a trail, or leading a friend along a path. Labs need plenty of daily exercise and mental activity to stay happy, and a meadow walk checks both boxes. Calves are naturally curious, and they tend to follow a confident companion.
If you walk a dog through tall grass or wildflowers, check for ticks afterward and keep up with the parasite protection your vet recommends. Also keep a close eye on what your dog sniffs and nibbles, since some wild plants can upset a pet's stomach. A sturdy leash and a well-fitted collar or harness make outings safer.
Duke is walking tall, Maple is keeping up, and the whole meadow seems to be smiling along. It is a very good day for a stroll.
