The Terrier Took a Seat on the Porch Steps, and the Horse Leaned Down Close
The porch steps are weathered and warm, and two friends have taken their seats. A brindle and white Boston Terrier sits upright with his big ears perked and his eyes alert, looking out toward the yard. Just beside him, a chestnut horse leans down so that his muzzle is nearly at the dog's level, his eyes soft. The yard stretches out in the afternoon light behind them. The Boston is Domino again and the horse is Copper. Sunlight slants across the boards, and the whole porch looks like a postcard from a slow summer day.
Boston Terriers are sometimes called the American Gentleman because of their tuxedo-like markings and good manners. They are friendly, bright, and usually great with people and other pets. Their short noses mean they can struggle in heat or heavy exercise, so keep outings gentle and make sure there is shade. They also tend to snore, which many owners find endearing.
Porches make a good place for pets to watch the world, but keep an eye on stairs and railings. Small dogs can slip through gaps, and steps can be hard on short legs. A gate or non-slip mat can add safety. If your pet is a senior or has joint trouble, your vet can suggest ways to make steps easier.
Domino and Copper are sitting shoulder to shoulder, watching the day go by. It is a very good view. Neither one feels the need to go anywhere else.
