The New Dog Bed Was Meant for One. Then the Cat Moved In.
The dog bed is round, thick and white, with a plush edge that looks like a cloud, and it is clearly big enough for two. The little black Pomeranian takes one side, his fox-like face turned toward the camera, and a grey Devon Rex with oversized ears tucks against him on the other. Behind them are a wicker basket of blankets, a pair of slippers and a lamp glowing against the wall. It is a snug little home within a home.
Pomeranians are tiny dogs with a big, fluffy double coat and plenty of confidence. They are lively and alert, and many make excellent watchdogs in their own small way. Their thick coats need regular brushing to prevent tangles. Devon Rex cats have short, wavy coats and usually enjoy warm spots, which makes a plush bed especially appealing. If cats and dogs share a bed, check that it is washed regularly, since fur and dander build up quickly. Having separate beds available is helpful in case either one wants some privacy. Cats often claim the dog's bed, and it may simply be the best seat in the house. As long as neither animal is stressed and both are comfortable, a shared bed is a pleasant sign of friendship.
Whoever the bed was bought for, it now belongs to both of them equally. Fluffy things are always better shared.
