A Weimaraner Met a Tiny Black Cat in a Pile of Autumn Leaves

Gold, orange and brown leaves are scattered everywhere, and in the middle of them a small black cat is mid-pounce, one paw raised and ears pricked. The silver-grey Weimaraner lowers her long, elegant face to meet him, her pale eyes soft and her nose just a whisker away. Behind them the room looks lived in, with a backpack on the floor, a mug on a table and blankets piled on the sofa. It is the kind of cheerful mess that happens when a good time takes priority over tidying.

Weimaraners are athletic, intelligent dogs with plenty of energy, so a playmate like this can be a real asset. They were originally bred as hunting companions and tend to thrive when they get enough exercise and mental activity. A black Devon Rex, with its big ears and wavy, short coat, is an active and people-focused cat that enjoys games as well. If you are bringing leaves indoors for play, check for anything that might upset a pet's stomach and remove decorations or twigs that could be swallowed. Many pets love the crunch and rustle, but it is smart to supervise and pick up any bits they chew. Both animals do best when play is gentle and each has the option of stepping away. Matching an energetic dog to a lively cat works when the dog learns that paws, not teeth, are the rules of the game.

The leaves will be swept up eventually. Until then, the Weimaraner and her tiny friend have the best seats in the house for autumn.
