The Lab Puppy Was Lifted Up to Help Put the Star on the Tree
With his paws stretched and his round belly in the air, a yellow Labrador puppy is held up beside the Christmas tree by a woman in a cozy cream sweater. She smiles at him as though he is the guest of honor, and he gazes up toward the top of the tree, where a star waits. Ornaments, gifts and pinecones sit beneath the branches, and a sofa with soft blankets is behind them. It looks like the most important job in the house.
Labrador puppies are friendly, bouncy, curious dogs, and they love to be included in family activities. Hold a puppy securely with one hand under the chest and the other supporting the hind legs, and keep him close to your body so he cannot wriggle free. Never dangle a puppy from a height, and keep him away from decorations that he could pull or chew. Tree lights can be hot, and ornaments can be swallowed, so the helper's job is best done at a safe distance. Labs are known to explore with their mouths, so give him his own toy during decorating. Praise and gentle handling teach young puppies that new activities are safe and fun. Short breaks help keep a young dog from getting overtired.
The star will go on top, and the puppy will take the credit. It is a team effort in the best sense.
