A Tiny Black Kitten Put On a Shaggy Lion Mane and Practiced His Fiercest Face
A shaggy ring of caramel-brown yarn frames a very small, very black face, and two golden eyes stare out from the middle with all the ferocity a kitten can muster, which isn't much. The little lion stands in the grass with his paws planted and his chin slightly lowered, as though practicing a stern expression. Dry leaves scatter across the lawn around him, a pumpkin sits beside a black planter near the fence, and the soft autumn light makes his inky fur look almost velvet.
Black cats have a few fun quirks. Their coats can take on a reddish or rusty brown tint after a lot of time in the sun, and some black kittens show faint tabby markings that fade as they grow. Their golden or green eyes often stand out dramatically against their dark fur. Owners of black cats sometimes say their pets are overlooked at shelters in favor of flashier colors, which is a shame, since coat color has nothing to do with how loving a cat will be. If you're thinking about adopting, consider meeting the black cats too; many of them are wonderful, affectionate companions just waiting for a home.
This little lion may not have mastered the roar yet, but he's certainly mastered the art of being adorable. The mane is a bit big for now. He'll grow into it.
Every lion starts out small. This one starts out small, black, and impossibly sweet.
