An Orange Kitten Stares Up at the Tree Like It's a Brand-New World
Her chin is lifted, her whiskers are spread, and her amber eyes are glued to something far above. A fluffy orange longhair kitten sits on the carpet with the tree rising behind her, strung with warm lights and red and gold ornaments. The living room is calm and sunlit, with a couch and a window in the background, and the kitten seems to have forgotten anything else exists.
Cats are attracted to Christmas trees for good reasons: they're tall, they smell like the outdoors, and they sparkle and sway. It's quite normal for a kitten to stare up in wonder, and then, sooner or later, to start climbing. A tree stand with a firm base, a corner location and ornaments hung higher up reduce the risk of a topple. Tree water is another thing to cover, because it can contain preservatives or bacteria that aren't safe to drink. A little citrus scent or a spray bottle isn't necessary if the tree is arranged well.
We'll call her Honey. At this moment she's the picture of calm admiration, and the tree is lucky to have such a sincere fan. Of course the staring phase doesn't last forever, and soon her paws will start planning their first climb, but right now it's pure wonder. Every home with a kitten and a tree knows this sweet, short chapter of the holiday.
