The Cutest Pumpkin on the Block Is Sitting Right on the Welcome Mat
Sitting squarely on the welcome mat in front of a blue front door, a tiny cream kitten has been transformed into the cutest pumpkin on the block. Her orange hooded costume puffs out around her chest, and a little green stem pokes up between her enormous ears. She gazes up with pale, wide-set eyes and a slightly puzzled expression. Around her, the porch is in full autumn mode: a pot of rust-colored mums, a basket of gourds, a carved jack-o'-lantern, dried corn stalks, and maple leaves scattered across the steps.
With those oversized ears and that soft, wavy fur, she has the classic look of a Devon Rex. The breed is known for its short, curly coat, large ears, and an impish, people-loving personality. Devon Rex cats are often described as playful, curious, and eager to be involved in whatever their humans are doing. Their fine, thin coat means they can feel the chill more than many other cats, so they often seek out warm laps, heating vents, and sunny spots, and some tolerate a soft sweater better than most breeds. Their coat also needs gentle care, since heavy brushing can damage it.
Whether she'll tolerate the pumpkin hat for long is anyone's guess. For one autumn evening on the doorstep, though, she's carrying it off beautifully.
Every porch needs a pumpkin at Halloween. This one just happens to purr.
