A Dalmatian Sits Like a Statue on the Snowy Garland Steps
Black spots on white fur look even more striking against a snow-covered staircase. The Dalmatian sits with a straight back and a long, elegant neck, her dark eyes fixed on something beyond the camera. Pine garland dusted with snow winds along the railing and the steps, and the wintry yard beyond shows a wooden fence and bare trees.
Dalmatians are athletic, high-energy dogs, originally bred to run alongside carriages. They need plenty of daily exercise and enjoy having a job to do. Their short coats don't offer much insulation, so they can get cold quickly in winter and might need a coat on longer walks. Icy steps are a slipping hazard for any dog, and salt used to melt ice can irritate paws, so wipe paws after coming inside. Garland made of real pine or holly may upset a dog that chews it, so keep it out of reach or choose an artificial version.
Let's call her Dottie. She looks like she belongs on a holiday card, with her spots echoing the dots of snow and the garland framing her like a wreath. She holds her pose well, but you can bet she's planning her next run across the yard as soon as the photo is done. Her calm sitting pose is all the more impressive for a breed with so much energy, and the snowy steps make a lovely, quiet frame around her.
