Every Coven Needs a Leader. This One Chose a Tiny Whiskered Witch.
Every coven needs a leader, and this one has chosen a tiny, whiskered witch. A brindle Shih Tzu with a shaggy face of brown, black and gold fur sits squarely on top of a hay bale, a little black pointed witch hat balanced between its ears. Its dark eyes peer out from beneath a fringe of bangs with a solemn, slightly bewildered look. The hay bale has been brought right into the living room, where a cluttered sofa piled with blankets and sweaters, a row of boots, a potted plant and a pair of small pumpkins set a homey Halloween scene.
Shih Tzus were bred as lap dogs and companions, and they are generally friendly, affectionate and happy to be the center of attention, which makes them natural costume models. Their long, flowing coat needs daily brushing or a regular short trim, and the hair around their eyes should be kept clean and trimmed to avoid irritation. Hay and straw make fun fall decorations, but they can harbor dust, mold and sharp stems that poke eyes or get tangled in long fur. If your dog sits on or plays in hay, check the coat and eyes afterward, and talk to your vet if you notice any redness or squinting.
Whether this little witch is planning a spell or just waiting for a treat, the outfit is a complete success. Spooky season rarely looks this fluffy.
