Captain Copper Traded His Collar for an Eye Patch This Halloween
Arr, matey. Captain Copper, a shaggy red Goldendoodle, has traded his usual collar for a full pirate look this Halloween. A black eye patch sits rakishly over one eye, a dark distressed pirate vest with buttons and a little skull emblem is tied around his chest, and his single visible eye gazes into the distance with salty determination. The backyard behind him glows in late-day light, with a carved jack-o'-lantern and a pot of orange mums by the fence, and fallen leaves scattered across the grass like doubloons.
Goldendoodles are known for being friendly, playful and social, and many are easygoing about wearing costumes, especially when treats are involved. Still, any accessory near the face should be chosen with care. Eye patches, masks and hats should be loose, lightweight and never block a dog's vision for long, because limited sight can make a dog anxious or clumsy. Avoid elastic bands that dig into fur or skin, and skip anything with small dangling parts that could be chewed and swallowed. A good rule is to keep costume time short and fun, and to take everything off as soon as your dog seems uncomfortable.
Captain Copper may not have a ship, but he certainly has the swagger. Every pirate needs a treasure, and his is almost certainly hiding in the treat jar.
