A Round-Faced Red Tabby Got a Lift to the Top of the Tree
Two hands hold the red tabby Exotic Shorthair high beside the tree, and his big amber eyes are fixed on the golden star at the top. His round face, short ginger coat and tiny paws dangling make him look like the world's most solemn tree-topper. The living room behind him has a couch, a plaid blanket and bright afternoon light, with photos pinned on the wall.
If you pick up a cat, support his chest and hind legs so his weight is carried properly, and don't hold him for long if he starts to squirm. Exotic Shorthairs are typically calm, affectionate cats, and some will tolerate being held better than others. Orange tabbies are often described as friendly and relaxed, though each cat is an individual. A shiny star or ornament should remain out of reach after the photo, since sharp edges and small parts are not meant to be swallowed. Many cats prefer to view the tree from the floor.
We'll call him Mango. He looks a little surprised to be up so high, but also very dignified, as if he's been chosen for an important job. Whether he helps or just stares, the tree has never had a more serious decorator. It is a sweet and silly image, the kind of holiday memory a household talks about for years, and it all hinges on one very serious little face.
